Classes/Qualifications
Please find the rules and qualification criteria for entering the different classes below.

Horses must be at least 4 years old to enter any Endurance event. All horses birthdays are from the 1st of January for the season so technically your horse will be older than he really is.

All riders must be at least a Introductory Member ($40) of ESNZ to enter an Endurance event or pay a $10 day membership. Full members with unregistered horses can enter up to 50km by paying a day membership for the horse of $5. In order to collect kilometers to move up through the grades, both horse and rider must have a full ESNZ and Club membership.

CEN - National Level Rides - these are run under the NZ rules

CEI - International Level Rides - these are run under FEI rules, they are counted towards international rankings and qualification for World Championship events.
Intro
CEN 0-46km speed restriction 13.5kph - not eligible for placings or Best Condition Awards
Lead rein classes: Open to junior riders up to the end of the season in which they reach the age of 14yrs. Maximum class distance is 46km. Lead rein classes shall be completed at a speed no faster than 13.5km per hour. Riders must be led by a senior competitor. Lead Rein classes must start after all other classes on the same day have commenced. Where possible the start time to be arranged so competitors in other classes will not be passing those in the Lead Rein class. Lead Rein classes must not to be held at Championship events. A successful completion for the horse & rider doing the leading can be used towards Novice qualifications. Lifetime kilometres only will be allocated to both horses if registered.
Novice
CEN 40 – 50km speed restriction 13.5kph - not eligible for placings or Best Condition Awards
- 4 year old horses may only enter Novice rides up to 46km and kilometers do not go towards qualifying to intermediate/open until the season in which the horse turns 5.
- Unregistered horses may enter to 50km on a day membership ($5) but kilometers do not go towards qualifying to intermediate/open. The rider must have full membership. Two rides can be claimed retrospectively once the horse has been registered and only rides in the previous 12 months can be claimed.
CEN 40-90km speed restriction 13.5kph - not eligible for placings or Best Condition Awards
- Fully registered horses and riders can begin the qualifying process to become intermediate/open riders
- Horses and riders must complete at least 2x 40-50km registered Novice rides and 2 x Novice rides over 80k-90km (in any order) to complete the novice criteria.
Intermediate
CEN 40 – 79km no speed restriction
- Horses and Riders have completed at least 200km of registered Novice rides up to 79km within 24months to enter this class
Open Classes
CEN 80-90km no speed restriction
- Horses and Riders have completed atleast 2x 40-50km and 2x 80-90 km of registered Novice rides within 24months to enter this class
- Senior riders over 18years of age must weigh a minimum of 70kg with their gear (except bridle)
CEN - 90-119km no speed restriction
- Horse must be at least 6 years old
- Horse must be open as above and have completed its first Novice ride at least 12months prior
- Rider must be open as above and have completed their first Novice ride at least 6 months prior
- Senior riders over 18years of age must weigh a minimum of 70kg with their gear (except bridle)
CEN 120-139km no speed restriction
- Horse must be at least 6 years old
- Horse and Rider must have qualified in at least 1 CEN Open or CEI event between 80-119km
- Senior riders over 18years of age must weigh a minimum of 70kg with their gear (except bridle)
CEN 140-160km no speed restriction
- Horse must be at least 7 years old
- Horse and Rider must have qualified in at least 1 CEN Open or CEI event between 120-139km
- Senior riders over 18years of age must weigh a minimum of 70kg with their gear (except bridle)
1* CEI 1* 80 – 119km
- Horse and Rider must also be registered with FEI
- Rider must be turning at least 14 in that year
- Horse must be at least 6 years old
- Horse must be open as above and have completed its first Novice ride at least 12months prior
- Rider must be open as above and have completed their first Novice ride at least 6 months prior
- Senior riders over 21years of age must weigh a minimum of 70kg with their gear (except bridle)
2* CEI 2* 120 – 139km
- Horse and Rider must also be registered with FEI
- Rider must be turning at least 14 in that year
- Horse must be at least 6 years old
- Horse and Rider must have qualified in at least 1 CEI* event
- Senior riders over 21years of age must weigh a minimum
of 70kg with their gear (except bridle)
3* CEI 3* 140 – 160km
- Horse and Rider must also be registered with FEI
- Rider must be turning at least 14 in that year
- Horse must have an FEI Passport
- Horse must be at least 7 years old
- Horse and Rider must have qualified in at least 1 CEI** event
- Senior riders over 21years of age must weigh a minimum of
75kg with their gear (except bridle)
